Jack is dead

Jack is dead - I thought he'd live forever.

Just got the frame for dads touring bike. We decided not to ride cycle Oregon and do a local ride instead - Eugene to Portland.  It looks flat (which is good!).

another bike!

Not so great...............just picked up a Gary Fisher Tarpon - 2001- a piece of junk. Not the owners fault, it was the bottom of the line when it came out, so it's got crappy components - all of which need to be replaced if I'm going to use it or give it away. I was a little upset about the wording of the ad(picked it up off of craigslist) - it sounded like the rear hub needed worked on, so I figured I could fix it......well the bike didn't even COME with a back wheel! I asked about it, and he said it didn't have a back wheel when he got it..................well why didn't he say that in his ad? I shouldn't have bought it after that, but I did. It's got grip shifters that are either broke or need cables, and the V-brakes are junk and at least the back ones need replacing. A waste of time and money, but I thought I could build a cheap bike for Devin to ride to work on.............We'll see!

a hard ride.........

This morning was a hard one! I was bucking a strong east wind, and I had my uniform and boots in the panniers so I was huffing a bunch of weight, not to mention going up hill for some of the morning ride. I'm bushed! and it's the beginning of a long and wet week!

I rode all the way!

Weeeeeee, I made it all the way today! It was 46 degrees when I left work, so I shed a few clothes and rode home. I'm getting way too fat! It was too hard! I sweated too much! I wish I could do it tomorrow, but we've got the "thing" going on until 7 p.m. Ughh

New year, new chain, new name!

The day after the "accident", I hit a large chunk of concrete that was lying in the median on 82nd. (it was dark). I noticed some nasty noise coming from the crank/chain area but kept riding for a few weeks, hoping it would get better. Well, of course it never does, so before I took off on Tuesday I put a new one speed chain ($6.00) on the five dollar bike; thus doubling the "value of said bike. It rides like new!

The weather is typical for this time of year - cold and wet. Great time to be riding!

I changed the name of the blog because the other one was stupid - this new name reflects my feeling while riding to work in the dark. Be safe!!
