Independent Fabrication update!

Well not really.................I changed the wheels but that's about it.

I just got the tools for the SPOX wheels so I can at least true those up, but I won't be putting them on this bike. Actually I've got a wheel coming with a Paul single speed hub that I'll be pairing with a front wheel that has a white industries hub for this one.........PEACE

Royce Union! - Joy and sadness...........

So I got an old folding bike - a Royce Union yesterday,,,,,,,,,,,,,I loved it.

All original, a little rusty, but workable I thought,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
And then I tried to fold it. It didn't want to, so I threw on some PB blaster and tried to work it back and forth.............and then I did this:

The front part of the hinge is fine - the back part is twisted - I didn't realize I was that strong! Anyway by the time I realized I bent it the hinge was swinging fine.............Now it will fold but not reconnect - what now?
I don't know if I trust bending it back, it might be weak. UGH!!!!!!!!

New bike for fifty!

Here it is, an Independent Fabrication. Beat up a little bit, a few scratches and dents on the seatstays, but mine!

I need to true the wheels before I ride it - using a set of spinergy spox that I got from the red kestrel.

 I believe it's a 2000 deluxe single speed. White industries bottom bracket and cranks and Chris King headset complete the package!

Upgrade Kestrel CSX

Just put on the Thomson stem and Easton Monkeylite carbon handlebars on today. Thought I'd take a few pictures. This bike is a little small, so Dad will be able to ride this bike nicely; it's REALLY light too!

Next comes the Chris King headset, and someday I'll get the right tools to tension the SPOX rear wheel and I'll sport a sweet set of SPOX wheels!

Next real project is getting a bike set up for a CO-worker - thinking of spraying a frame with Plastic-dip.

New Bikes!

Well,

It's been a few days since I posted.............So I've had some time to pick some new bikes!

The first one is a Kestrel CSX, made in Japan (ugh) with Spinergy SPOX wheels (I've taken the back one off to true it) I thought I took pictures when I got it, but here it is after it was ridden in the rain:

And the other new one - a Bianchi Ibex (1993) - I got this at the Salvation Arny for forty bucks - It's got the original tires! Pictures before the cleanup:

 It was sixty, but I got a nice discount for buying a bag of coffee!

I cleaned it up, removed the plastic wheel/spoke protector behind the cassette on the rear wheel, oiled the chain and adjusted the brakes - it works fine! After I re-grease the bearings it will ride like new!

So that's it. Biking as usual, close calls almost every day, rainy season already here, same as it ever was.

My new(ish) white industries black single speed crankarms came in yesterday - YEAH!

After I get a new carbon fork, I'm going to rebuild the Kestrel mountain bike - photo's soon!

Bike Seats!

Just bought one of these - I wonder if it's comfortable?
