The week in review............

So...............

On Friday a bee flew in my helmet on the way home, and luckily only stung me on the temple. The bad news is that I gave away my 1974 Schwinn Le Tour on Wednesday..............to a guy who needed a bike. 'nuff said.

the parting photo's

It's a great bike - just a little too tall for me to ride. It's okay though..............now I've got room for another!

Happy riding!

Most miles and the hottest week.ever!

Just writing this so I can remember........................I rode extra miles this week, and finished with 115 - all on the new Kestrel. The weather was over 90 at least three of the five days, with yesterday at 99.

On a lighter note - once again so I don't forget it..........

The kestrel is done...sort of

Rode the Kestrel all this week - put 60 or so miles on it, made a crank change, some cable adjustments, moved the handlebars around, and that's about it.  Here is the final product!

the handlebars are a bit off, and I need to reposition the brake levers. I'm running the derailleur cables thru the handlebar tape, but the cables are getting pinched at the downtube shifter cable stops; so that's an issue.

Next up - painting the Cannondale!

Kestrel update - and a NEW BIKE!!!

So..........

I went to pick up a used Chris King headset yesterday - the catch being it was attached to a damaged single speed frame. Well, the damage isn't as bad as I thought, so I decided to keep the frame.

Here it is.............a Swobo

The second picture shows one of the two dents - I've seen a lot worse! It's galvanized (or at least painted that way). I changed out the headset to a different one I had (that was much worse), and now I've got to scrounge around for parts.

Here is some updated photos of the Kestrel:

I wrapped handle bar tape around the top tube to hide all the nasty touch-ups, I added an old pair of Dura-Ace brakes, and will go with drop handle bars with bar-end shifters for a change. I'm waiting for new handle bar tape, and it will be pretty much done!. I'm going to try a Sram crank and see how it goes.

I had some modifications done on the 86 Cannondale, and decided to paint it. Here are the pics!

I had the  bent part of the hanger cut off and I filed it down - now the White Industries hub will fit nicely!

We drilled holes in the top tube so I can run a back brake - safety first!!

The last I'll see of the old logo...............wish I could find a replacement!

Just got the new head set, so I'll finish sanding it down and I'll go for it. I'd like to change the steel fork for a cool carbon one, but it's a lot of money................we'll see.

PEACE

Kestrel Photos!

Well.here goes.........

The Kestrel was incredibly dirty!!!
but it can be cleaned.

It had stickers!

that isn't so bad as long as they aren't hiding anything - the top one is - the bottom one isn't.

The top tube on this looks really bad - LOT'S of touch-ups - this one looks like a new paint job candidate.

I can't get the drivers' side bottom bracket bearing cup out yet, so I'm waiting for a new tool.

I thought all I needed for this was a set of wheels (which I have), but it looks like a bunch more work.

It doesn't appear to be cracked anywhere, and I guess that's the most important thing.

Here it is in a decent light.
Oh yeah - you're not supposed to put the frame on the bike stand - only use the seat post!

UGH!

The kestrel came today..........other than the 86 Cannondale (broken) frame I got off ebay, this is the nastiest, greasy thing I've ever seen........and those few scatches it had? un-nicely covered up with (I assume) paint, or maybe fingernail polish. I just hope that the stickers that are on it aren't covering up anything bad..........I'll post some pictures as soon as my camera is charged.

I learned a lesson - NEVER buy anything sight unseen!!!!

Day off workin'

I rebuilt the 1" fork on the 1990 Cannondale today - well I rebuilt it a while back but didn't do a very good job.......anyway, here is the bike - all finished except the rear cassette is an eight speed and the grip shifter is only a seven speed. Maybe I'll look for a different one!

And this morning I changed wheels and put full fenders on the winter bike.

and just for good luck , Wilbert snuck in for this one...............

The Croll is done!!

The Croll is done!

Good news! here is the finished product - still need to wipe the grease off and find a new Reynolds aluminum sticker, but anyway.........

I pretty much built a new bike - other than the stem, seatpost and seat. New Carbon fork, Chris King Headset, Paul Components Melvin, used White Industries eno crank and freewheel. The rear hub is a rebuilt Paul Components, and the Hugi disk front wheel I bought as-is. The bottom bracket (I believe is titanium, but I don't remember.............Oops! The chain is a little long......I'm going to ride like this for a while, and maybe switch to a bigger chainring.

Just in time for the new project - I should have an old Kestrel 200Sc coming on the 7th of July - "hopefully" not as much renovation as the Croll

Lazy!

I haven't posted here for awile, mainly because the weather has been so poor, and I haven't been out to the shed to finish the Croll or work on any of the other bikes. Nothing new to disclose - I'm still not sure how I want to finish the Croll - single speed or geared. Riding in torrential wind and rain sure can be fun! (sarc)

On the flip side, I've picked up a bunch of stereo equipment this winter and have been jamming out! maybe some pictures?

PEACE

leaking or glue?

Just got this sub woofer and I'm trying to isolate a loud hum. I took the back of the woofer off to look for loose connections or bad components. I noticed this - are the capacitors leaking or is this all glue? I'm thinking the stuff on the tops of the capacitors are glue, but how about all the stuff on the board?
